We build privacy fences in both low-maintenance vinyl and classic wood, in heights from a standard 6 ft up to 8 ft where codes and HOA rules allow. Every post is set deep in concrete below the frost line so the fence stands straight and solid through Missouri's heavy clay soil and freeze-thaw winters — the part of the job that quietly determines whether a fence stays plumb for decades. The frost line across St. Charles and Warren County runs about 30 inches, so we dig past that depth and set posts in concrete on every line, corner, and gate. Our clay holds water and heaves as it freezes and thaws, and a footing that stops short can lift a post and rack a whole run, so getting the depth right is the single most important thing we do — especially on a tall, solid privacy fence that catches more wind than an open-rail style.

- Vinyl privacy — solid tongue-and-groove panels in white, tan/almond, and gray, with thick co-extruded walls and reinforced rails; never needs paint or stain
- Side-by-side wood — pickets butted tight in cedar or pressure-treated pine, the classic full-privacy backyard fence
- Board-on-board wood — overlapping pickets that look finished and private from both sides, with room to breathe as the wood moves
- Shadowbox — alternating boards for two-sided good looks and airflow, ideal on windy or open lots
- Lattice-top & extra-tall — decorative toppers or full 8 ft height where permitted for added screening and style
Standard wood privacy fencing uses dog-eared or flat-top pickets on 2x4 rails and 4x4 posts; the typical picket is a nominal 1x6 — actually about 5-1/2 inches wide and roughly 5/8 to 3/4 inch thick depending on the mill and grade — run vertically and butted tight for a solid face. We can step up to Western red cedar for its natural rot and insect resistance, dimensional stability, and warm color, or use pressure-treated pine for value — both are standard, proven choices for a backyard fence in our climate. Board-on-board adds a second overlapping layer of pickets so there are no gaps as the wood shrinks and moves with the seasons, and it looks finished from both sides — a real plus on a shared property line where your neighbor sees the back. Shadowbox alternates pickets front and back for a fence that looks good from either yard and lets a breeze pass through, which keeps it from acting like a sail on our open, windy subdivision and acreage lots.
Vinyl privacy uses tongue-and-groove pickets locked into routed rails, comes in 6 ft and 8 ft panels with matching gates, and is engineered with UV stabilizers so it resists yellowing through our hot, sunny summers. The walls are co-extruded and thicker than the flimsy panels people remember from years ago, and longer runs and gates get internal aluminum or steel reinforcement so they stay rigid. Wood is typically left to weather to a silvery gray, or sealed and stained every few years to hold its color and stretch its life; vinyl just needs an occasional rinse with the garden hose and never sees a paintbrush. Vinyl comes in white, tan/almond, and gray; wood can be left natural, stained in a range of tones, or painted.
